Retail comp sales results are out for August and they are generally good. Several retailers beat analyst estimates with positive months from Zumiez, Limited Brands, and Abercrombie & Fitch. Hot Topic beat estimates by only decreasing 3.7% for the month, never a good sign. Hot Topic still hasn’t had a positive comp month this year.

Comp sales are out for July and they are soft, for the most part. While it looks like Abercrombie & Fitch and Zumiez have beat expectations, a number of retailers are reporting software sales than expected, including Target, JCPenney, and Aeropostale.

Comp sales for June are out and it is a mixed bag, as expected. The winners for the month look to be Abercrombie and Fitch (showing strong gains across A&F and abercrombie kids stores, making up for a poor performance from Hollister), Nordstrom (up 14.1) and Zumiez (up 10.9)

Comp sales are out for the month of May and it is a mixed bag of results for the retailers we track. Gap scored big, internationally, with an 8% increase outside of the US. Mall-based Zumiez saw another strong month, showing a 7.1% increase over last year.

April can be a frustrating month in the retail industry. With Easter being the only major holiday in the US with a big difference in the date it falls on each year, comp numbers from one year to another can be brutal. This year, we didn’t see any Easter-related spending in the fiscal month of April, and because of that, sales numbers are ugly almost across the board (exceptions to this being Limited Brands, Macy’s, Nordstrom, and Zumiez — all posting gains this month)
